Gary Onofrio #78
Gary started riding dirt bikes in 2002 on a on a 1990 Yamaha RT100. After the early days he upgraded to a 1993 Kawaski KX80.
This is when he entered the world of “Motocross.” Started riding some local tracks and getting the feel for the future sport which he would fall so much in love with.Well after a few years on the KX80 he then did the big move to a 2000 Suzuki RM125.
This was the first bike he entered a race with. In 2003, he entered a AMA Arenacross race in Bridgeport, CT. He made it all the way to the main event. Later that year, along side Bill Glossa and Michael Battista he entered his 2nd race. The Boneyard in Meriden, CT. (NETRA)
Gary Sold his Suzuki and moved to a 2001 Yamaha YZ250f, being one of the first to move over to the 4 Stroke around town.
Lets move on to 2004, this is when AMX really got into Arenacross. That Novermber Gary and Mike both entered a AMA Arenacross race in Worcester.
Then in January 2005, Arenacross returned to Bridgeport, CT and this time Gary, Bill and Mike all raced it. It was an exciting day. Unforually some gate trouble happened but never the less it was a day never to be forgotten.
Now between all this Gary was praticing at local tracks and also CT River Motocross, better known as Rocky Hill.
In 2006 Mototown USA Opened its doors, and AMX made a few trips up to pratice and in the 2006-2007 Winter Series Gary entered a few races here and there. Pretty much the being of his local supercross career. Which would excel the following year.
2006 was also the first year racing in the New England Motocross Series. The only race that year entered was Southwick, MA.
In 2007 a few more NEMX races followed, includign Southwick but also Crow Hill. But the highlights came in the winter of 07-08 at Mototown USA.
In Oct. 2007 Gary made a big upgrade by moving to Suzuki on a 2007 RMZ250.
Motown USA 07-08 Winter Series: This was the first time anyone in AMX proceded to race an entire series. This was a big deal. Gary and Mike both entered the Open Novice class and what a series it was. Finishing in top 5′s almost every week. At the end of the Series Gary Fisnished 3rd Overall. Unforually that was the last of the Mototown Winter Series and it will be missed. AMX had a soft spot of Indoor Motocross, seeing how AMX started racing indoors with Arenacross.
Lets move on to 2008. In April of 2008 Gary raced the last Motown race before it closed, then proceded to race at Southwick with NEMX.
Gary would not be seen racing again untill Spring 2009 at Milford Riders Motorycle Club where he had a great series. Followed by the 2009 summer Classic.
Now you can watch him Friday Nights racing at Milford this spring!
Cool man!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed watching your accomplishments thru it all. Scared alot of times but your responsible riding proved you controlled the bike not the other way around. Looking forward to more. Luv ya Mom
